Changes to the California State Disability Insurance and Initial Reactions

The tax limit on the California State Disability Insurance (CA SDI) Plan was removed in 2024 to shore up funds for increasing benefits starting in 2025. Employers have been implementing California Voluntary Disability Insurance (CA VDI) Plans, a legal alternative to the CA SDI Plan.
